NihaoKids Level Descriptions
Level 1
Level 1 features simple dialogues on daily-life topics, as well as introduces the students to the basics of Chinese pronunciation, transcription (pinyin) and writing, including Chinese characters and their constituent strokes.
Upon completing this level, your child will be able to understand and use basic Chinese words, phrases and sentences. He/she will have steady progress in terms of the 4 basic Chinese skills — Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
NOVICE MID YCT 1 PRE-A
Level 2
Level 2 includes dialogues built around simple, common social situations. It also introduces the students to the basics of Chinese character structure, which lays the foundation of Chinese character writing. Finally, it introduces young learners to some interesting elements of Chinese culture — including Chinese holidays, food and meals of the day, Chinese writing and calligraphy essentials, etc.
Upon completing this level, your child will be able to understand and use more Chinese phrases and sentences, which are enough for basic social exchange.
NOVICE HIGH YCT 2 A1
Levels 3-4
Levels 3 and 4 feature dialogues and short articles on practical daily-life situations. They introduce young learners to the first commonly used radicals, which are constituent parts of most Chinese characters. Finally, these two levels feature many more interesting elements of Chinese culture — including Chinese traditional sports, traditional holidays, musical instruments, and more.
Upon completing these levels, your child will be able to engage in meaningful conversations around daily-life topics. The acquired knowledge will him/her allow to build longer and more complex sentences.
INTERMEDIATE LOW YCT 3 A2
Levels 5-6
Levels 5 and 6 include more dialogues and short articles on various topics. They introduce young learners to more advanced elements of Chinese culture — including such exciting topics as popular science and history, Chinese idioms (chéngyǔ) and the stories behind them. The two levels also include more advanced Chinese characters and writing practice.
Upon completing these levels, your child will be able to complete a wide range of basic, daily-life tasks and conduct basic conversations in Chinese. He/she will be able to clearly and logically express his/her ideas on the topics covered in these levels as well as topics of personal interest.
